Road trip – woot woot!

Living in the Northeast, there are soooo many drivable destinations to choose from. I’ve been up and down the coast, from New Hampshire to Maine, and from Virginia to Georgia, and I can’t wait to share one of my all-time favorite and most memorable road trips. It was just peachy, y’all!

Okay maybe that was a little too corny, but it’s suiting. Summer of 2018 was the year I started my whole “just get up and go” mantra. I had just gotten over a long overdue break-up, had gotten off of work for a few days and decided that despite who came with me or where I ended up, I was gonna adventure to a place I had always wanted to go to; Savannah, Georgia. A friend ended up tagging along, we hopped in the car around 3am and started our 12 hour journey.

If you’ve ever seen those corny Hallmark Christmas movies that take place in tight-knit southern towns, then you could easily imagine how Savannah was like. Friendly people, upbeat vibes, GREAT food and drinks, and just an overall warm atmosphere (and humid, at that). We stayed right in Historic District which was walkable to plenty of shops, very unique bars and delicious restaurants. We were a short drive to Tybee Island (about 20 minutes) where we spent a day swimming and tanning, and only a few blocks from Forsyth Park, filled with beautifully towering oak trees and several walkable trails.

We spent about 2 nights in Savannah, and made a pit stop for an additional 2 nights in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. We found a cheap hotel right on the beach which was also walking distance from their boardwalk. Myrtle Beach is a very family friendly and touristy area, and during the summer months, it’s well worth the visit. The best part about Myrtle Beach is the ability to camp out by the water and sleep next to the crashing waves. Just be sure to wear extra layers and bring some blankets, cause I sure was freeeeezinggggg!

IF YOU REMEMBER ONE THING FROM THIS BLOG: you definitely need to note down some of these amazing places we ate at, ESPECIALLY “Chickin Lickin'” in Hardeesville, South Carolina. It’ll be along the route to Georgia and I swear it’ll be the best soul food you ever taste. While in Savannah, The Rail Pub will give you great drinks, amazing service, and a big community welcome from the clientele, and if you’re looking for a cheap bite, Green Truck Neighborhood Pub has burgers that are sooooo worth the calories. After all, food is the best part about the south, no?
