As suggested in my previous blog, if you’re looking for an effortless and stress free vacation that also has tons to offer, a cruise ship is the way to go. With options of just a few nights away to having an entire week of tranquility, I always opt to booking a cruise when I need a trip with maximum relaxation and minimal effort.
One of my favorite things about taking a cruise is the options that are given. While there are many cruise lines to choose from with a variety of destinations and itineraries, the ships themselves are also loaded with activities and things to do. Many of the cruises I’ve been on had different styles of dining, some had theaters, karaoke bars, arcades, spas and bowling alleys, and all of them had multiple pools and lounge chairs to take advantage of. With so many amenities included in the price, how could you say no?
While cruises for sure have their perks, there are also some things that you should be aware of when booking your first cruise getaway. First, be aware that although food is covered in most cruise packages, that doesn’t always mean that drinks are too. Many cruise lines offer separate beverage packages, depending on which drinks you prefer. There are usually basic packages which include sodas, waters, teas, etc., and a standard list of cocktails, beers, wines and spirits, and then there are other packages which include higher end beverages and top-shelf quality liquors. Make sure that one of these packages is purchased, because paying individually can really rack up your tab!
Another thing to be mindful of is that the ship adheres to a strict itinerary if visiting multiple destinations. This means that if your ship is going to 3 or 4 different places, then it is likely that you’ll only have a few hours to enjoy at each location. With limited time, it is best to plan your trips accordingly. In order to get the most out of each destination, I recommend booking shore excursions with the employees at “Guest Services”. They are always happy to help and will give you plenty of options on fun things to do once you arrive to shore. Plus, depending on which cruise you book, you might even have an excursion or two thrown into the deal!
But with so many amenities, destinations, and food/beverage options, how is a trip like this going to be affordable? Surprisingly, cruise vacations can easily be within anyone’s budget! Many cruise lines such as Celebrity offer rewards for frequent sailors, which adds up to discounts and freebies on board, and several other cruise lines such as Carnival and Royal Caribbean hold promotions during their off-seasons with pretty large discounts and great packages available! However, if budget isn’t a concern, I’d highly recommend reliving your childhood years and investing in a Disney Cruise, where Disney movies stream poolside all day, and there are plenty of activities for both adults and children.
Despite your preference or budget, there’s a cruise ship out there that’s waiting to pamper you! Weigh out your options, keep your eyes open for the off-season deals, and pack your Dramamine and SPF, cause you’re on your way to a serene getaway!
